Rosalind Candy Castle: Beaver County’s Easter Candy Headquarters

This article is sponsored by our friends at Rosalind Candy Castle in New Brighton. It is the second article we have done for them, and you can read the first one here if you missed it!

It is Easter Bunny time and Rosalind Candy Castle is hoppin! These busy folks are in the zone, prepping for Mr. E. Bunny’s arrival. An Easter basket wouldn’t be complete without a few pounds of chocolate, and if you weren’t on your way to New Brighton already, after you read this, you will be!

Something for Everyone

The beauty of Rosalind is that there is something for everyone.

The Beaverhausen’s have three kiddos with three completely different tastes. Teenager Beaverhausen hates peanut butter (it’s true. I think he might be adopted). Toddler Beaverhausen hates any sort of fruity candy, like jellybeans or gummy candy. Baby Beaverhausen, well.. she is a baby so she doesn’t really have an opinion, but since I will be the one to handle her basket contents, I would like to say that she prefers coconut and caramel. Rosalind has all of that covered, in a very delicious way.

Their chocolate eggs are the best I have ever had, hands down. They come in a dozen different varieties. A DOZEN. AND!! They come in four different sizes – one pound, two pounds, three pounds, and five pounds.  A five pound chocolate egg is what I just said.

**Fun fact – My oldest son weighed five pounds when he was born. He was the size of the Solid Chocolate Pecan Egg that I have been dreaming of since my Rosalind visit! I bet that egg would sleep better than he ever did as a baby. Anyways…

The Top Three Egg Flavors

Michael and Jennifer, the lovely brother and sister team that are part of the Rosalind family, told me that the top three flavors of eggs are Fruit & Nut, Cashew Meltaway, and Peanut Butter Meltaway.

The Fruit & Nut Egg is an old fashioned sort with cherries, pineapple and assorted nuts swimming in their homemade fondant.

The Cashew Meltaway has their in-house roasted cashews mixed with pure milk chocolate (drool).

None of these could be outdone by the ever-famous Peanut Butter Meltaway Egg. Do I even need to describe that one? It is an egg filled with their creamy, homemade peanut butter that melts you away to a few minutes of bliss as you devour it.

Above and beyond those favorites are Coconut Cream, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Butter Pecan and Rocky Road, just to name a few more.

As I mentioned in my last article, these folks control every single aspect of their product. The Rocky Road Egg has chunks of their homemade marshmallow inside. The fondant and peanut butter are made in house. The nuts are all roasted by hand there too. Quality in means quality out, and your taste buds will let you know this is true.

I missed the eggs being made, but Michael and Jennifer gave me the lowdown. It is quite the process! The type of filling used dictates the type of mold used. Plastic molds, metal molds, and even corn starch molds (which, to be honest, I can’t even wrap my brain around!). There is filling time, cooling time, then pairing-the-egg-half time and finally, the decorating time.

Time and love, folks. A labor of delicious chocolate love.

The Chocolate Filled Basket

They also have a very unique item in their Easter collection – the chocolate filled basket. This is a chocolate basket, not just a basket of chocolates! Chocolate molded into the shape of a wicker basket, then filled with Rosalind’s Family Assortment.

They have been making these baskets for over 50 years, and they have really perfected it, too. When you are done eating the paper wrapped bites, you just eat the basket too.  Now that is efficient!  These baskets are available in either one pound or two pound sizes.

There is such a huge variety of scrumptious sweets that it would be impossible to go through everything they have available. But rest assured, anything you need, you’ll find it. On the day of my visit, I was able to pick up one of the Cashew Meltaway Eggs, an orange/green chocolate carrot for the Toddler, and a Salted Caramel Egg for the Teenager. (I also may have picked up a Salted Caramel Egg for The Mister that may have ended up somehow…not making it home.  Uhhmm.)

The 3 Foot Tall 30 Pound Chocolate Rabbit

Another thing to take note of while you are in Rosalind is the three foot tall chocolate rabbit. This delicious beast weighs over 30 pounds and was, as with everything else in the store, hand decorated by these incredibly talented folks. The rabbit is holding a chocolate carrot and has a basket on his back stuffed with chocolate eggs.

Here is the best part about this bunny – it is not for sale. You are probably thinking, “How is that the best part?!” Well, let me tell you how! This bunny is going to be raffled off.

Tickets are only $1 and all of the money collected goes directly to McGuire Memorial Home. Every single dollar! Not just the proceeds. All of the money. Rosalind cares about the community and for this cause, and they hold raffles JUST like this twice a year. All of us at YBC love this!!

Meet the Easter Bunny

ALSO!! A quick bit of very important information for your calendar!

THE Easter Bunny, Mr. E. Bunny HIMSELF, will be at Rosalind Candy Castle for a few hours after church on Palm Sunday, March 20th between 1 pm and 3 pm. Be sure to stop to get the kiddos on his lap.

The Beaverhausen kids will be there for sure. It will be a great time, and even if the kids don’t cooperate, Mom and Dad can leave with some sort of roasted cashew/coconut/caramel treat to get them through.

I know Rosalind makes all kinds of wonderful things but my favorite is the good old chocolate bunny. Best eaten ears first!

  2. Darla Peduzzi says

It’s hard to pick just one as a favorite, but I think I’d have to say the cashew egg is my favorite.

  3. Anastacia Blair says

Went in to take my daughter to see the Easter bunny. I couldn’t help myself and box a bunch of candy.

  4. LindaK says

Some folks think that “other” candy from Washington County is better so I did a blind taste test with the family. ROSALIND won in EVERY category, hands down. <3

I love the peppermint patties for every day choice. But I love the cashew melt away eggs for Easter choice.
