- The Great Beaver County Donut Throwdown My last few articles have been on the healthy side (Fellowship Foods, Sproutz…) so I figure we could all use a little palate cleanser with a donut throwdown! The mission that I have chosen to accept is to find Beaver County’s best donut. I went into this mission comparing only three donut shops, because those […]
- Chocolate Heaven: Behind the Scenes at Rosalind Candy Castle Sometimes in life, there are magical things that happen. Births of kids, marriages, pets brought into your life... I had one of these magical things happen this past week when I got the YBC Golden Ticket to go behind the scenes at Rosalind Candy Castle in New Brighton. Even now a few days later, I am still smiling like a butcher’s dog! It was a great experience.
- Another Recent Addition to Bridgewater: Beaver Bagel Co Next up on the "Beaverhausen 2016 Tour of Bridgewater," yet another new business! You may have heard me rave about them in a few of my past articles, but I assure you that it is all true. Beaver Bagel Co has opened its doors! Bagel lovers throughout the county, rejoice! No longer do we have to settle for some crappy bagels in plastic bags that have probably been sitting on a store shelf for weeks. And we sure don’t have to drive to get subpar chain bakery bagels anymore. These are handmade, local, and really the best you will have in, well, ever? That is a Beaverhausen guarantee, folks.
- Vic’s Oven: Beaver County’s Favorite Specialty Pizzas Vic has the best specialty pizzas around, hands down. On the menu are the staples – Five Cheese, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Spinach & Feta, Hunky Alley, Gyro, Italian Stallion, Mexican and The Pitt. These guys are all perfection. There is nothing even remotely close to these pizzas anywhere around here, or at least that I know of. And I eat a lot of pizza.
- Rome Inspirations: The Amazing Other Side of Rome Monument Rome Inspirations is completely different from the Rome Monument side. Both are owned and operated by the same family, but they are totally separate entities. In addition to helping people remember those they have lost, Rome Inspirations also helps people celebrate life and special occasions! The easiest way to review this amazing store is to break it into 6 categories – bereavement, pet loss, ladies boutique, kids boutique, religious items, and home decor.

- Local Author Spotlight: Grandma Jeanie Beanie and the Love Names During one of my very often moments of Facebook scrolling, up pops a picture of an adorable kids book under the ‘Suggestion’ category. The book cover looked adorable, so I checked it out in more detail. This book, Grandma Jeanie Beanie and the Love Names, was written by Kathy Bingle, a resident of Beaver! I was able to talk to her and get a copy of her book for the Beaverhausen kids (which they loved, btw). As soon as we read it, I knew that I wanted to write about her and let the YBC readers in on her book too.

- Mardi Gras: Fat Tuesday in Beaver County Writing this from the North, it is hard to completely soak in the traditions of the South without being there. However, let me give you a few recipes and things to bring to the Mardi Gras party you are clearly wanting to plan now, right in Beaver County. Tell your boss you are taking the day off. You have some pre-Lent things to take care of! That should be considered a religious obligation, I think? Maybe you should check with HR before you do anything crazy though…
- Groundhog Day: Four Ways to Bust Out of Your Same Old Routines In the Beaverhausen household, I have two days – Weekday Day or Weekend Day. Every weekday spent home with the kids is exactly the same. Routine is good, absolutely, but sometimes it can make you a little crazy to bust free!
- The Amazing Journey of the Freedom Boat Yard Bell A retired teacher from the Freedom School District told me about this bell and it was a really neat story so I thought I would share! The Freedom Bell has a long and interesting story that includes being lost in West Virginia for years before being returned to it's home in Beaver County!
- New Year’s Resolutions: Do More “Adult Things” Ana is a big fan of The Pollick Agency - Allstate Insurance. She had the chance to speak with them last week about some "adult things" that we should all be doing...but often put off and forget about. If you are still struggling for a good New Year's Resolution, acting more like a grown up is a great one that we could all sign up for!
