Despite the fact that it is awfully cold outside and might be snowing for most of the day today, there is a bunch of exciting events happening all over Beaver County this weekend.
From live music and a church carnival to ice fishing and West Side Story, there are lots of different types of activities to pick from this weekend. Here are some of the ones we are looking forward to!
Friday, January 29
St. John the Baptist Winter Carnival
The annual Winter Carnival at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in downtown Monaca will kick off with a Paddle Party on Friday night starting at 6 pm.
Theater – West Side Story
The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is where you can catch a local performance of “West Side Story” on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
Saturday, January 30
The 53rd Annual Beaver County Snow Shovel Riding Championship
This event had been scheduled for weeks, but it looks like the shovel riding might actually take place at Old Economy Park this weekend. The plan is to race from 12:30 pm until 3 pm.
Ice Fishing Derby
Anglers from all over Beaver County will gather around the lake at Brady’s Run Park on Saturday morning for the Ice Fishing Derby sponsored by the Brighton Township Parks & Recreation Board. Registration starts at 8 am with fishing kicking off around 9 am. Prizes will be announced in the pavilion at 2 pm.
UPDATE: Due to the warm weather we are expecting on Saturday, the Ice Fishing Derby has been postponed and will now be held on February 20.
Winter Farmers’ Market
The beautifully renovated Beaver Station is hosting the Beaver Farmers’ Market during these cold winter months. You will find vendors there on Saturday morning from 9 am to 11 am.
St. John the Baptist Winter Carnival
The real Winter Carnival experience at St. Johns will happen pretty much all day Saturday with food, games, raffles, and entertainment planned to start at noon.
Live Music – Jay Wiley
Jay Wiley will be performing at Bocktown Beer & Grill’s Saturday Afternoon Acoustic Showcase from 3-6 pm on Saturday.
Night at the Races
The Chippewa Township Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Night at the Races fundraiser on Saturday. Doors open at 6 pm and the ponies will start running at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased for as little as $10 and they include food, beverages, and door prizes.
Theater – West Side Story
The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is where you can catch a local performance of “West Side Story” on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
Live Music – El Dorado
El Dorado will be playing at the Beaver Falls Turners on Saturday night starting around 9 pm.
Sunday, January 31
Times Bridal Fair 2016
If you are planning on getting married in the near future, Seven Oaks Country Club will by hosting the annual Times Bridal Fair this sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. There will be tons of bridal exhibits on hand, a bridal fashion show, and lots of great door prizes! Make sure you ask about VIP tickets.
St. John the Baptist Winter Carnival
Our friends at St. Johns will conclude their annual winter carnival with a spaghetti dinner on Sunday evening following another full day of games and entertainment scheduled to start at noon.

Family Game Night
You can close out your weekend at Chippewa United Methodist Church in Chippewa by participating in their Family Game Night from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday evening.
