When you are doing the dreaded home remodeling, where do you go? Do you pick the big box store by the mall or that other one in Chippewa??  What if I told you there was a third option – a family owned and operated business – right on the main street of New Brighton??

Wagner’s Home Remodeling! It has been there for 40 years (technically, 40 years as of January 1st) so you have definitely at least driven past it. It opened as Wagner’s House of Panels back in 1976, because as we all know, the 70’s loooved wood paneling! It has evolved since then into general Home Remodeling and continues to evolve with the current trends. There is way more than you could imagine when you go inside.

A Family Business

Wagner’s Home Remodeling is a true family business. Sam Wagner is the owner and current operator, and he works with his step daughter Kelly in the daily operations, his adorable granddaughter Grace for the ads, and Dave the cat has been working as, well.. as the cat, for 16 years.

When you see the Wagner’s billboard on the side of the road with a little peanut on it? That’s Grace. Adorable, right?? But this business, specifically the window installation in Louisville KY portion, was started by Sam’s dad many years ago and he has carried it on to what it is today. Sam comes from a family (please, sit down for this) of 18 kids.

I’ll let that sink in for a sec.

Eighteen kids. For me, I can’t even…  His mother must be a saint. She was pregnant for a total of 13.5ish years. *drops mic* She wins.

So, Sam Sr. started the home window glass repair business. Sam Jr. is still working it. If you are looking for a great window repair company visit http://replacementwindowssurprise.com. Kelly works there too. Grace is getting primed to work it. And then Dave is still being a cat. It is a family affair; that much is for sure.

Lots of Flooring Options

Wagner’s Home Remodeling sells a huge variety of flooring and carpet. They have hardwood, tile, laminate and vinyl, and tons of carpet to pick from. Considered a Mohawk Color Center Store, they carry a larger line of Mohawk flooring than you would find elsewhere. More choices than those big box stores, that’s for sure. If you can’t find something you like here to cover your floors, you might just be out of luck.

When we needed carpet for our old house, I had no idea where to start. It had been years since I was shopping for carpet…and technology, man. It really made some differences in carpet! All of these fiber differences nowadays.

They actually have something called SmartStrand. Pretty soon the carpet fibers will be able to connect via Bluetooth to an app that lets us know when to vacuum.  Ok, not really.. but you get what I’m sayin..

Anyway, we needed neutral, inexpensive, and Toddler Beaverhausen proof. Sam greeted me at the door with a smile, asked what I was looking for (I gave him that exact description – Neutral, Inexpensive, and Toddler-proof) he walked me right over to exactly what I was looking for.

After a few minutes of describing the differences in the brands, I picked the carpet, set up the install date and moved about my day. It was a nice, easy process and the carpet was perfect. It was the one thing in that house that the Toddler didn’t destroy. Love that toddler…

Wallpaper for Days & Custom Stained Doors

They are also one of the last places in the county to carry stock wallpaper too. If wallpaper is your thing, you are in luck. There are shelves and shelves and shelves of it to pick from. Kelly can guide you to something that you will love. Just ask her when you get there!

They also carry a massive selection of doors by Therma Tru. Red doors, blue doors, white doors…  The wood grained doors are stained by Kelly herself! Hey there, handy lady!!  She might be the female BC version of Bob Villa!

But really, by her doing the custom staining, they are able to really match exactly what the customer is looking for.  Along with Therma Tru, Wagner’s is the only authorized Marvin Window and Patio Door dealer in the County.

And Custom Windows Too!

Speaking of windows, another service that sets Wagner’s Home Remodeling apart from others is that they sell their own brand of vinyl windows. They make them in the basement, custom to your needs. If you have an opening that needs a window, they can most likely fit it.

There are two guys down there, along with Dave the cat, building the windows to order. These windows have the same Energy Star ratings as those fancier, way more expensive wooden windows.  I had no idea all of this was going on in there! There is a whole window factory in that building!

Wagner’s does anything from small jobs, like changing out glass in a window, to big jobs like installing hardwood flooring throughout the house. All of the installers and the crew are employees of Wagner’s – they do not use any subcontractors. They are licensed and insured and are fully in charge of the job from start to finish! Again, unlike those big guys… You won’t get this kind of service from that kind of store.

To celebrate their 40th year in business, they are having a huge Marquise Carpet sale – 20% off, plus free padding with installation. Also on sale, Eastern Laminate Flooring for $4.95 per sq ft installed. Hey hey, new floor for the new year, anyone?!

Support local business, folks! Check out Wagner’s and tell them that you read about it here. The address is 828 3rd Avenue in New Brighton, and their phone is 724-847-1433.
