We probably should have made a bigger deal out of last week being YBC’s second birthday. The reason that is just hitting me now is that this is the third straight year that I am sitting down to write an article promoting the BBQ and Blues Fest at Hopewell Community Park.

While it is my third year writing about it, this is actually the fifth year for the event that brings together the best rib smokers, chili cookers, and blues musicians that Beaver County has to offer.

I like chili, but I’ve never been crazy about it. But smoked ribs and blue music? That’s the stuff that really gets me going. That’s why I’ll be making every attempt to get myself down to Hopewell Community Park this saturday.

The festival is scheduled to run from noon to 9 pm. The judging times are 2 pm for chili, 4 pm for chicken, and 6 pm for ribs. But there will be plenty of food available to eat throughout the day.

There will also be music. Here’s the schedule:

  • 12 pm – Rhythm Hawks
  • 2 pm – Bill Toms and Hard Rain
  • 4 pm – Stevee Wellons Band
  • 6 pm – BluSoul
  • 7:45 pm – Bo’Hog Brothers

After a long summer of learning how to use my own smoker, I am really excited to check out what some of the best local pitmasters have to offer, so you can count on me being down at Hopewell Park on Saturday afternoon. I’ll see you there!
