ALIQUIPPA, PA – With 263 animals in its care, of which 213 are cats or kittens, the Beaver County Humane Society (BCHS) is at full capacity. In response, BCHS is announcing special discounts on cat and kitten adoption fees, starting on Saturday, July 22, 2017, in an effort to find homes for the many cats and kittens flooding through their doors this spring and summer.

To encourage people to adopt, all cats six months or older have no adoption fee.  Instead adopters will be asked to make a donation of their choosing. BCHS also is discounting kitten adoption fees to $50.  Or consider adopting two kittens for the price of one. All the cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, FELV/FIV tested, and vaccinated.  Adult cat adoptions are usually $65 and kitten adoptions $100, but most shelters invest approximately $300.00 per animal.

“Every summer we see an upswing in the number of cats coming into our shelter, largely because cats reproduce at higher rates during the warmer months, but this year we have 35% more animals in the shelter this year as compared to last year.” said Mike Romigh of the BCHS. “In addition, surrenders pick up, often because people are moving this time of year. We also see an increase at the end of each month because of evictions.”

In an ongoing effort to find forever homes for adoptable animals, BCHS now partners with three local PetSmart stores in Monaca (115 Wagner Road), Cranberry Township (1717 Route 228) and New Castle (2573 West State Street) as well as Petco Cranberry. BCHS also is strengthening its foster network, which consists of residents dedicated to providing temporary homes to animals too young or too sick to be made available for adoption.

“We have all kinds of cats and kittens – making our shelter a great places to find your perfect match,” says Mr. Romigh. “And as a bonus, by adopting, you’re saving a life. If you cannot adopt, please consider becoming a foster or volunteer.”
