Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! The beautiful colors, the fantastic (usually) weather… Finally swapping summer’s swampy weather and lemonade for cool days and red wine. It is a welcomed change of pace after how It is also a great time of year to get outside and take part in some of the tons of activities the county has to offer!  Between fall festivals and spooky parades, there will be plenty to choose from!

Fall Festivals

Weekend of October 3rd

Chippewa United Methodist Church on Darlington Road. Lots of fun for games for the kiddos on Saturday, along with pumpkin wagons, a bake sale and plenty of other activities. 10am-2pm. www.chippewaumc.org

Vanport Fall Festival, VFW Jefferson Street. The Crows Run Band will start playing at 1pm and there will be food booths, pumpkin painting and more. 12pm-5pm. 724-601-9953

Heritage Days Festival,  Buttermilk Falls. Horse drawn wagon rides, live entertainment, crafts and food, even a petting zoo and pony rides! This festival also runs Sunday, October 4th as well. 8am-6pm www.villageofhomewoodjunction.org

Weekend of October 10th

Center Township Fall Festival, Center Grange Road. Held at the Fred Taddeo Park. There will be food, games, pumpkin patch and hay ride. Parade starts at 11:30am festival runs 12pm– 6pm. 724-774-0271 www.centerrec.com

Bridgewater Annual Pumpkinfest, Bridge Street.  To open this years festivities will be a ‘Flag Retirement Service and Ceremony’.  Sandy the Witch will be there, along with a petting zoo, pumpkin maze, crafts and more. 10am-3pm. 724-709-8432

Hopewell Fall Fest, Hopewell Community Park .All day pancakes (yay!), hayrides, corn maze, even a wild animal show. Tons more too! 8am-3pm  724-378-1460.  www.hopewelltwp.com

South Side Historical Village Fall Social, Hookstown. Spend the day in this historic village and enjoy demonstrations, bake goods, a barn dance, apple cider press, and more. 11am-3pm.724-899-4165  www.sshva.wordpress.com

Saints Peter and Paul, Beaver. Fall festival runs all weekend, with a merchandise bingo on Friday, games and bounce house on Saturday and a large pasta dinner on Sunday. 7pm-9pm Friday, 2pm-8pm Saturday, 1pm-7pm Sunday. www.ssppbeaver.org

Weekend of October 17th

16th Annual Applebutter Fest, Vicary Mansion Freedon. Tour the Vicary Mansion and celebrate all things applebutter at this fun festival! 10am-5pm. www.bchrif.org

2nd Annual Autumn Splendor Tour, various locations throughout the County.  Check out the website for exact locations and times, but this sounds like a great day! Check out local galleries, shops, make-your-own craft classes.  www.straycatarts.com

Pumpkin Pancake Brunch, Harmony Museum’s Stewart Hall. Pumpkin and buttermilk pancakes is what’s on the menu! 9am-1:30pm. www.harmonymuseum.org

Weekend of October 24th

New Brighton Children’s HarvestFest, Townsend Park New Brighton. Bring the kiddos to build their own scarecrow! Drinks and snack will be provided. 12pm-2pm. www.newbrighton.org

Spooky Events

October 18th

Spooky Rails Train Show, Shenago Township. All age train show $5 for kids aged 13+, Kids 12 and under are free. 10am-3pm. www.blrhs.org

October 21st

New Brighton 1 mile Dash and Halloween Parade, main street New Brighton. The event starts at 5:30pm with the dash and the parade begins at 6pm. www.nbarc.net

October 24

An Evening of Tales and Hauntings, Vicary Mansion Freedom.  6:30pm is a presentation by the Center for Unexplained Phenomena, 7:15pm starts the judged costume contest (zombie is the theme!), and 8pm starts the story telling. Bring a chair and your stories to tell. $13 per person. Pre-registration required for this event. www.bchrlf.org

October 30-November 1

Night of the Living Dead Opera, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, Midland.  Full length opera of George Romero’s cult classic. Parental discretion advised! 7:30pm Friday and Saturday, 2pm Sunday www.lppacenter.org

Anastasia Beaverhausen is a married, stay-at-home mom of three kids. She was born, raised and still lives in downtown Beaver. Her main goals in life are making sure everyone lives through the week, the house doesn’t end up condemned, and teaching two (so far) small people how to “people” properly.
