top-10-ybc-articles-2015

After launching in September of 2014, 2015 was the first full year of YBC. Over the course of that year, we published at least one article every single day.

The fact that we were able to maintain that consistency no matter what came up in our personal lives is something that I am very proud of. It wasn’t always easy. It wasn’t always fun. But we were able to get something out to you every single day.

Of course, some of those articles were better than others. So for our 2015 recap, I thought it would be fun to take a look at our Top 10 Most Popular YBC Articles of 2015.

In order to determine which articles made the list, I simply pulled the total traffic numbers from the entire year for anything published in 2015. This gives a pretty big edge to the articles published earlier in the year, but every article on the list definitely deserves a spot there.

10. Stems By Syd

Our business features are pretty popular, but they have to be pretty darn special in order to make their way onto one of these “best of” lists. Based on the traffic numbers, the story of Sydney Noll’s flower shop in Bridgewater and the way that Maura told it was VERY special…and it was the only non-restaurant business feature to make the Top 10 this year.

9. The Best Breakfast Spots in Beaver County

Every time I go out to breakfast in Beaver County, I find myself saying that I should do that more often. We have tons of great breakfast options to choose from, so when Allie pitched the idea for this article I knew it was going to be a big one for us.

8. Soup-Herb Sproutz (That New Healthy Place in Beaver)

Nothing generates great traffic numbers quite like stories about new restaurants. And when Sproutz opened earlier this year in Beaver, it was a very big deal. If you haven’t been there yet, what are you waiting for?

(We also had a very successful article about Mario’s Dockside Grille opening in Bridgewater. Had we published that article a little earlier in the year, I am sure that it would have made this list too!)

7. 25 Beaver County Foods You Must Eat Before You Die

Marc got robbed on this one. It probably would have been our #1 article of the year, except for some reason Facebook deleted it from our page and won’t let us reshare it. I assume it has something to do with the part about “before you die,” but that seems a little bit ridiculous, doesn’t it?

Anyways, this articles still had enough juice on its own to land at #7 on our Top 10 list. If you haven’t had multiple experiences with all of the foods on the list, it serves as an excellent guide for eating your way through Beaver County.

6. Beaver County Bucket List: 10 Things Your Must Do in Beaver County

Coming in just ahead of Marc’s 25 Foods article was my Beaver County Bucket List article (Sorry, Buds). This is another list article, but I expanded it to include more than just our favorite foods…although there are still some great food options here!

If you are looking for something fun to do in Beaver County and haven’t crossed all of these off of your own bucket list, get to work!

5. Lost Beaver County: Beaver Valley Mall Edition

I was really surprised that more of Allie’s Lost Beaver County articles didn’t make the Top 10 articles of the year. She started the idea with Lost Beaver County, then followed it up with Lost Beaver County: Round 2 before moving on to Lost Beaver County: Beaver Valley Mall Edition and Lost Beaver County: Beaver Valley Mall Edition Round 2.

All of these articles reminiscing about businesses that are no longer with us were really fun for us to discuss as a group, and they were also really popular with our readers.

(Allie also wrote a great article about The History of Junction Stretch earlier this year!)

4. 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver

After the success of Corey’s 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver County, we each took a turn doing our own version focused on the towns we grew up in. Ana’s 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver was a really fun one that checks in as our #4 most popular article of 2015.

3. 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver Falls

Just ahead of Ana’s 10 Signs article is Allie’s 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver Falls. When you break down our Facebook fans by zip code, there are more people following YBC from 15010 than anywhere else, and it’s not even close.

2. Haunted Beaver County: Urban Legends and Eerie Feelings

One of my favorite stories to tell about YBC articles is that I thought Maura’s idea for a ghost stories article was going to be a complete flop. As it turns out, it was just another example that there is a whole lot more to predicting popular articles than what goes on in my head, because this one was a monster that is still really popular.

1. 10 Signs That You Might Be From Beaver County

Unlike Maura’s Haunted Beaver County article, I knew that Corey’s 10 Signs article was going to be huge from the minute he pitched it to me. But even I had no idea just how big it would be. This article did over 100,000 impressions in its FIRST WEEK on Facebook, cementing it as our most popular article, by far, for all of 2015.

So that is the best of what we published in 2015. But don’t worry, because we are already hard at work putting together ideas to top these articles with even better ones in 2016! Happy New Year!
