If you’re one of those crazy people like my sister that wrapped up (see what I did there?) your Christmas shopping back in July, then this article isn’t for you…unless you’re looking to get a jump start on next year (go for it, Jenny…you nut).
But if you’re more like me and haven’t really started shopping for all the knuckleheads on your list this year, we’ve got some serious work to do. What are you supposed to get for those wacky relatives you haven’t really seen since last year? And how are you going to manage to find something before Thursday night?
Don’t sweat it. We’ve got you covered.
We have actually put together a few different gift guides over the past year at YBC, which are coming in mighty handy for me right now. So you will definitely want to start by checking out Brian’s 10 Local Businesses to Get Your Last Minute Gifts, Ana’s Beaver County Baby Gift Guide, and Ella’s Small Business Saturday Shopping Guide.
After reading through each of those guides, you’ll see that there are some repeats and a few businesses that are no longer with us, but there are also a ton of great ideas. Let’s take a closer look at some of my favorites and what you can get for your friends and family this year.
Two Rivers Olive Oil, Beaver
One of the hottest Beaver County gift ideas this year is going to be flavored oils and vinegars from our friends at Two Rivers Olive Oil. They have tons of different options that come in plenty of different sizes, so you can get something here no matter what your budget restrictions are.
If you are like me and have no idea what vinegars go with what oils, check out Ana’s article on vinegar and oil pairings and you’ll look like a pro!
Herban Touch, Beaver
While you are in Beaver to stop at Two Rivers, you might as well walk across the street and swing by Herban Touch to grab some healthy snacks for stocking stuffers. Brian turned us on to the awesome juices and smoothies here, but you can also get some really great kale chips and homemade granola.
Sapling & Sons, Beaver
If all the healthy vibes coming from Herban Touch are a little too much for some of your family members, you can always balance then out with some Dulcinea Craft Chocolate, which just happens to be sold down the street at Sapling & Sons.
You can also pick up some really unique cards for just about everyone on your list here!
Castle Toys & Games, Beaver
Another popular gift spot that also happens to be located in Beaver (notice a trend here?) is our friends at Castle Toys and Games. If you are looking to shop local and still get an amazing selection of toys, this is the spot to find them.
Make sure you head upstairs to check out their massive collection of science toys and board games!
Ok. One more place in Beaver and then we’ll go somewhere else in the county. Jessie from Jeppie is pretty tight with Ana…which means that SHE TALKS ABOUT HIS STORE NON-STOP…..ALL THE TIME…..LOVES IT!
With that disclaimer in place, Jeppie has an awesome collection of items that would make perfect gifts this year and is definitely worth a stop when you’re trying to find something for the hard-to-buy-for person on your list.
Beaver Falls Coffee & Tea, Beaver Falls
Located up on College Hill in Beaver Falls, this place is definitely one of Beaver County’s hidden gems. They have lots of really cool coffees and teas that make perfect gifts for the coffee or tea lover on your list. Mrs. YBC is always trying out new types of coffee and will never have enough mugs satisfy her addiction.
Beaver County Fruit & Garden Center, Center & Beaver Falls
I have heard that the stores in both Center and Beaver Falls have some really great gift baskets, but the gift I’m looking for here is Piper’s Pit Buffalo Ranch Sauce. That stuff is fantastic and makes a killer gift for the brother-in-law that already has everything.
If that isn’t enough to get your gift giving ideas going, you could also try picking up something crafty at Pat Catans in Aliquippa, something musical at Brighton Music or Hawkins Guitars in New Brighton, or a good cigar from King Beaver Cigars in Monaca.
And when all else fails, there is always the gift card aisle at Giant Eagle in Rochester or Aliquippa. It’s hard to beat those fuel perks, right Mrs. YBC?
