- Veterans Day: Growing up a Son of a Grunt I can't give you any insight on what it was like to be in a fire-fight, deep in the jungles of Vietnam. I wouldn't understand the hardships of coming home from a war. My inexperience makes me ignorant to what it was like. I do know what it was like being a son. A son to someone who lived it. A son to someone who had a hard time leaving it behind.
