I’m a total sucker for great BBQ, and when you’re looking for BBQ in Beaver County, it doesn’t get any better than PJ’s BBQ on Brodhead Road in Center Township. My wife and I make it a point to eat here pretty much as often as possible. If the dinner plans are left up to me, this is one of my go-to choices.

If you aren’t specifically looking for PJ’s, there is a good chance that you would drive right by without even noticing it. That’s because it is set back a good ways from the road and blocked by a number of trees. It is also located at a point where the road turns, so if you are heading towards Aliquippa, you might blow right past it even if you are looking for it.

The decor of the restaurant is interesting, to say the least. Being that it is a BBQ restaurant they obviously are quite fond of pigs, which explains the borderline ridiculous number of different pig statues and figurines displayed all over the restaurant. This is the type of unique Beaver County charm that often goes unappreciated, so take a minute and look around next time you visit.

Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Salads

If you want a detailed account of the menu options at PJ’s, you’ll have to check out their website. I will confess that I don’t know much about the menu. That’s because I have been ordering one of two options for about as long as I can remember.

My standard go-to is the full rack of ribs with french fries for both of the side orders. If I am not in the mood to make a complete pig of myself, I sometimes opt for the large pulled pork dinner, again with a double side of french fries. Their fries come with a dry rub seasoning on them that is out of this world.

My wife is even less daring than I am. She orders a grilled chicken salad pretty much everywhere we go, but says that this is one of the best ones around.

The BBQ Sauces

The thing that makes the pork and fries at PJ’s so ridiculously good is the fact that they have five mind-blowing homemade BBQ sauces: Damn Tasty, KC Dream, Carolina Low Country, Sunset Mustard, and Southern Twang. No joke, I didn’t look those up. I know them that well, because they’re that good.

The most popular sauce is their Damn Tasty, which is a sweet BBQ sauce that also packs a spicy kick. The KC Dream is a little bit thicker and sweeter without the spice, so it goes fantastic with ribs. My personal favorite sauce is the Carolina Low Country, which is a vinegar based sauce and it is the reason I insist on getting a double side of french fries every time.

Any roadside BBQ joint can ramble on and on about how their ribs that are smoked for weeks at a time just fall off the bone. Well, the ribs at PJ’s do the same thing, and this place also has the amazing selection of homemade BBQ sauces to complement those ribs. This restaurant is an absolute staple for any BBQ lover living in Beaver County.
