The Monaca Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its Second Annual Stop, Drop & Run 5K on Saturday, October 11. After a great turnout last year, the station is looking to get even more local residents involved this year, making this a true community event!

The race is completely open to the public, and the registration fee is $20 prior to October 5. The registration goes up to $25 after October 5, but participants are welcome to register all the way up to the start of the race. There is a 20% discount offered to all firefighters. Your registration fee includes an awesome t-shirt and entry into a number of door prize drawings.

The course will start at the Monaca Station 57 Volunteer Fire Department, which is located at 913 Taylor Avenue in Monaca Heights. Participants will run from the station down Allen Avenue, around Central Valley Middle School, then continue down around the Monaca Youth Baseball Field before returning to the station along the same path. There will be water stations at both Central Valley Middle School and the Monaca Your Baseball Field.

While the race is open to runners and walkers of all skill levels, there will be a prize package that includes a trophy and $100 cash awarded to the top male and female finishers. There will also be medals for the top three finishers in each age group and all kids under 12. The top finishing firefighter will receive a trophy, and there will also be a plaque awarded to the fire department, police department, military unit, and high school that has the greatest number of participants.

Race materials can be picked up at the station as early as 8:00 am on the day of the race. The race itself will start promptly at 9:00 am. If you are interested in participating, you can obtain a registration form, as well as more information, from the race website. If you would like to be involved but aren’t up for running or walking, you can also volunteer to help on race day!
