You know how you have those places where every time you go you end up asking yourself why you don’t eat there more often? Yama Japanese Restaurant in Beaver is definitely one of those spots for me. I’ve never had a bad meal there, it’s always fast, and the price isn’t bad either. That why I decided they would be the perfect choice for the first installment of this new “Out to Lunch” series.

Being located right smack in the middle of Third Street in Beaver, Yama is about as easy to get to as any restaurant in Beaver County. The only sticking point is that it isn’t always easy to find a parking spot right on Third. But if it is a nice day and you are willing to walk a few blocks, there is always plenty of parking along the side streets of Beaver.

My personal preference is to eat at one of the table in the back corner of the restaurant, but there are also a few tables right outside of Yama if you are looking for that outdoor restaurant vibe.

On this particular visit, I had a table for one in the back room with a perfect view of the sushi guys. Ever since I watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi on Netflix, I have been fascinated with the amount of art and skill these guys are able to put into even the most basic rolls.

I’m pretty sure this is something that we have already covered a few times, but Yama has lunch specials that let you pick two or three of their basic sushi rolls along with your choice of soup or salad. Best. Deal. In. Town.

On this trip, I opted for the three roll special with soup. When I was a kid, I used to love just plain broth soups, so I always think of Miso Soup as basically the adult version of that.

For my three sushi rolls, I got the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and Philadelphia rolls. As you can see, each of the rolls breaks down into six little pieces. The tuna and salmon rolls are pretty straightforward, and the Philadelphia roll is a bit more complicated. It is made with salmon, cream cheese, and a little piece of avocado.

My style when it comes to sushi is to load each piece up with wasabi and dunk it in soy sauce. And as you can see from my bill, this delicious sushi lunch is a pretty great deal for only $12.72. What’s not to love, right? I can’t believe I don’t eat here more often. 🙂
