I don’t know about you, but Spring is the time of year when I just want to be outside as much as possible after a long winter. Most of us will do our share of Spring cleaning, but is your house going to be “Summer Ready?” Use this checklist to give your home a smooth transition to summer so it can be “summer ready.”
- Wash the exterior of the home
Depending on which type of siding you have, power-washing can do harm. All you really need is a garden hose and a cleaning wand attachment. It is always a good idea to tarp your plants and shrubs.
- Clean the deck or patio
If you have a wooden deck, it is best to treat the wood after cleaning with a stain as well as a water seal to prolong the life of the wood. Most patio furniture can be cleaned with any all purpose cleaner. There are even all nature and safe home remedies that will do the job.
- Tend to the garden
The rule of thumb is the plant your flowers or garden after Mother’s day which means now is the time! Mulch will protect plants from a drought and give a nice look as well as boost their growth. Newspaper can be laid down as a bio degradable weed control as well.
- Air out the house!
Open up all the windows and let in the fresh air. It’s also not a bad idea to turn on the AC to low to get rid of the winter mustiness.
- Change out the winter décor
Change out the dark lines for a brighter look. You may also have more flower décor which is perfect for brightening things up around the house!
- Last but not least, add a fresh coat of paint.
Touch up any feeling paint, add an accent wall or just change to a brighter color. Spring is the perfect time to do any or ALL of these.
