Popular Fishing Locations
There are plenty of fishermen who will debate the best places to fish in Beaver County, and even those who agree on the best places will still disagree on the best times to fish those places. To each his own, but most everyone will agree that the following places are all great starting points for anyone looking to catch a few fish in Beaver County:
- The New Brighton / Fallston Dam on the Beaver River.
- Right at the mouth of Brush Creek.
- Brady’s Run Park Lake
- Anywhere along Raccoon Creek
- Just below Montgomery Dam on the Ohio River.
The type of fish you find will vary depending on where you go and the time of year, but channel catfish, flat-head catfish, hybrid striped bass, and smallmouth bass are some of the most common across all of the waters of Beaver County.
Licenses & Bait
As with anywhere you choose to fish in Pennsylvania, you will need to purchase a Fishing License in order to cast your line in Beaver County. The most popular place to pick up a license is at one of the Wal-Mart stores, but they are also available at the Treasurer’s Office in the Courthouse (the people at the courthouse are more friendly than the people at Wal-Mart).
Every license is good for the duration of the year it is purchased in, except for the lifetime license that is only available for senior residents. If you are an out-of-state visitor, there are one-day, three-day, and seven-day tourist licenses available for different rates.
If you are in search of live bait, the most popular bait shops are FC’s Skate Bait & Tackle in New Brighton, Shooters Place on Route 51 in New Brighton, and Reddi Bait & Tackle in Bridgewater. You can also find a great selection of fishing equipment at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Beaver Valley Mall.
All of the different types of waterways located throughout Beaver County make it an outstanding location for any recreational angler. If you are looking for a great way to spend an afternoon relaxing by the water fishing in Beaver County, grab a rod and head on down to the closest river, creek, or lake!
