There is a new program in the works to help kids in Beaver County. It is called Feedthekidsproject.org and it is gearing up to launch in the Beaver Falls area first with your help!
The program at its core is a pretty simple idea – to make sure kids have food to eat all weekend when they are not at school. There are an estimated 1,600 needy school kids living in areas without an established weekend food program. It is quite possible that sometimes these kids go without until Monday morning comes. This just simply should not be happening! You can help change it!
Karen and Demetrios Pappan of Beaver Falls created Feedthekidsproject.org. They are partnering with the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve (FOCUS) West Central PA to initially raise enough money to feed 100 kids. FOCUS currently operates a food bank at St. John the Evangelist Orthodox Church in Beaver Falls where Deacon Ron Seraphim Moslener and many volunteers developed the “Backpack Program”. This program provides bags containing three healthy meals a day on the weekend to qualifying Big Beaver Falls Area School District students. Throughout the school year, bags are distributed every Friday. They include enough food for two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners. They also include several snack items.
Here is where you come in – Beginning on May 3rd, Feedthekidsproject.org will launch a crowd funding campaign on gofundme.com. It takes $20 a month to feed one student for an entire school year.
“Our goal is to raise $24,000, which would cover the needs of 100 Beaver Falls kids throughout the school year,” says Demetrios Pappan. “As the project grows, we plan to expand the program to other school districts in the county.”
