Looking for a fun way to enjoy the cold winter weather of Beaver County? On Saturday, January 24, Hopewell Community Park will be hosting its annual “Chillin’ in the Park” Winter Event. The party will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM with some serious action happening at 12:00 pm and then at 1:00 pm.

The action at noon will be in the form of the “You Build It, You Push It” Sled Race. Teams will compete in pushing their homemade sleds across level ground regardless of whether or not there is any snow. There will be prizes for the most creative sled and for the fastest team.

Following the sled race, there will be a whole bunch of crazy people jumping in the lake at 1:00 pm. I’m not exactly sure why anyone would want to voluntarily jump into a lake that will likely be frozen, but I can absolutely understand how fun this will be for the spectators. Each participant will also be donating at least $20 to the park to promote future children’s activities.

In addition to the two big events, there will also be plenty of warm treats from the concession stand and lots of games for the kids! Like most of the great events at Hopewell Community Park, this one is completely free and open to the public.

As of right now, it looks like the weather is going to be just a bit above freezing. Good luck to all of the sledders and jumpers!
