Between New Year’s resolutions and the Lenten season, I am sure you have plenty of reasons to avoid eating sweets. I am going to tell you to forget about all of those reasons, and do it quickly. There is a lady named Rachel who does the most amazing selection of goodies that you can’t even imagine. In my ‘research’ phase of the Battaglia’s Dutch Ridge Dairy article, I was able to sample quite a few of these treats that Jessica had in the store.

Tasting the Treats

I am going to start with the bark, because this is the one that I started eating and that didn’t even make it for The Mister to get home from work (sorryyyy). Actually, it didn’t even last long enough for me to get a picture of it! This was the best thing I have had in quite some time. A layer of homemade chocolate, with pretzels pressed into it, all covered in homemade caramel. Cooled. Cracked in pieces. Delicious. Actually too delicious. I sure did eat the entire bag! No regrets! (some regrets, but moving on regardless)

The next one that I tried was the salted caramel brownie sandwich cookie. Seriously, have you ever heard of such a thing?! Another knock out. Crunchy dark chocolate brownie cookie smeared with a thick layer of caramel icing. Yes sir, I will have another.

The tasting continued. We had chocolate chip cookies, a chocolate chip scone, a couple of buckeyes, a cinnamon roll muffin, cake pops, and then it happened. The chocolate covered Reese’s cup stuffed Double Stuffed Oreo. She splits an Oreo, puts a Reese’s cup in it, and then covers the entire thing with delicious homemade chocolate and a lovely drizzle of PB to top it off. Like a sweet turducken, this “Frankenstein’d” cookie is a very close second to that caramel bark.

The Real Deal

Rachel has a home based commercial kitchen that is licensed, inspected, and insured. She is the real deal! It may be out of her house, but it’s just exactly like any other restaurant kitchen out there! Coming from a long line of bakers and chocolate makers, Rachel started around five years ago with cake pops, and her business has grown by leaps and bounds since. When you taste it, you will know why.

On her website there are so many menu items listed. From wedding cupcakes and cake pops, to birthday parties and baby shower favors, Rachel has you covered. She has chocolate dipped items, including those delicious Reese’s Oreos. For Valentine’s Day, she dips fresh strawberries in your choice of milk or white chocolate and can do sprinkles, sugar or a chocolate drizzle to top it off.

Pretzel rods, chocolate covered bananas, truffles, it goes on and on.

And the Cookies!

And let’s not forget about cookies! She has your basics covered – chocolate chips, peanut butter, thumbprints – but she also takes it up a few notches and offers specialty cookies like magic cookie bars, pecan pie bars and whoopie pies. Pumpkin whoopie pies? Oh my.

If you have ever seen the homemade chocolates at Grandpa Joe’s in Beaver, those are Rachel’s, too! The chocolate covered bacon is one of her masterpieces. She also supplies Grandpa Joe’s in the Strip District as well. Both locations have the chocolate covered bacon, chocolate covered TWINKIES, and pecan clusters, to name a few. The entire list of goodies that the Grandpa Joe’s locations carry are on Rachel’s website.

Another spot you can try her chocolates (in addition to Battaglia’s Dutch Ridge Deli), is Hallowed Grounds in New Brighton. Marc was able to visit them and write a great article on his experience roasting coffee beans. Let’s just call him Juan Valdez from now on!

And, finally, B’Poppin in New Brighton! This is a fairly new gourmet popcorn spot in New Brighton that is on my list to write about soon! I was able to try out some of their flavors and yum. Pizza, taco, birthday cake, caramel, too many to list. Definitely put that spot on your list of places to try. My buddies at Battaglia’s also carry a lot of flavors!

Chocolates, Sweets and Treats by Rachel can be found on their website or on Facebook. There are so so many pictures of cakes and treats she has made on both, and pictures from last weekend’s bridal show at Seven Oaks as well! She would be happy to talk to you about your special event and making it even more, well… special!
