Beaver County was once filled with Catholic schools that educated thousands of students. Due to our ever-changing landscape and a downturn in the economy a decade ago, Catholic schools began to shut their doors. Long gone are schools such as St. Titus, Presentation, Mount Gallitzin, St. John the Baptist, St. Philomena, St. Mary’s, and St. Veronica.
However, there are still a few Catholic schools in Beaver County where students can receive a quality, faith-based education. Our Lady of Fatima in Hopewell, St. Monica in Beaver Falls, Saints Peter and Paul in Beaver, and Quigley Catholic High School in Baden are the last of a generation of Catholic schools.
Quigley Catholic High School
Quigley, established in 1967, is one of the top performing Catholic high schools in the country. It has also been recognized as a “School of Excellence” by the Cardinal Newman Society. Quigley offers a full slate of athletics and activities, on top of a rigorous curriculum that challenges even the most gifted learners. Their mission statement reads, “Quigley Catholic High School is a Roman Catholic, college preparatory, co-educational secondary school. With gospel values as its foundation, Quigley Catholic strives to form faith-filled disciples of Christ, life-long learners who will contribute to the common good of the church and the world. We do this through the collaborative efforts of all members of the Quigley Catholic community.” Prospective students can schedule a “shadow day” to see what it’s like to be a Quigley student.
They are located at 200 Quigley Drive in Baden. Their phone number is 724-869-2188 and their website is www.qchs.org

St. Monica Academy
St. Monica Academy is a conglomeration of former schools St. Mary’s/Divine Mercy, St. Philomena’s, and Holy Trinity, all of which were located in Beaver Falls. These schools were staples in the Beaver Falls community, beginning in the 19th century. The former St. Mary’s/Divine Mercy church in downtown Beaver Falls was torn down a few years ago, which caused heartache for many former parishioners. According to their website, Saint Monica Catholic Academy offers a safe, drug-free, nurturing environment, a sound curriculum based on Gospel Values and individual attention to student needs, enabling each student to utilize his or her gifts as Christ-Centered citizens.
Saint Monica Catholic Academy is a continuation of 126 years of Catholic Education in the upper Beaver County and continues the mission to provide a faith filled, safe learning environment with Jesus Christ at the core of our curriculum, and is affordable to any family.

With such great public and charter schools in Beaver County and the region as a whole, it’s often easy to overlook the fact that we are fortunate to still have three high-achieving Catholic schools and one excellent Catholic high school here in the County. All four schools offer tuition assistance to eligible families.
