ST. BARNABAS OFFERING FREE ACTIVITY AND HOSPICE VOLUNTEER TRAINING @ Beaver Meadows
Apr 26 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

St. Barnabas will offer a Free Activity and Hospice Volunteer Training on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Beaver Meadows located at 5130 Tuscarawas Rd., Beaver, Pa. 15009. The training aims to produce volunteers who are committed to compassionately meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of residents. A light lunch will be provided, and certificates of completion will be awarded upon conclusion of training.

Training covers various volunteer opportunities, including on-site recreation, outings, movie nights, crafts, happy hour and hospice care visits. Topics will include:

• An overview of activity volunteer opportunities and policies

• Introduction to hospice care and St. Barnabas Hospice

• Hospice volunteer processes and practices

• Relating to Alzheimer’s and dementia patients

• Communication and support skills

• Education on dying, grief and bereavement

Activity volunteers can brighten up the day of residents by assisting staff during various daily, weekly and monthly events. Hospice volunteers can be a blessing for patients who are entering the final days or weeks of their lives. Hospice volunteers are an important part of our interdisciplinary team that provides emotional, physical and spiritual care with a focus on restoring dignity and personal fulfillment through pain management, personal choices, listening and caring. This model creates an emotional and spiritual space in which patients can live their remaining days as comfortably as possible. It also facilitates meaningful visits with family members during a very difficult time.

For more information and to register, contact Katie Schneider at 724-495-1600. Alternate accommodations can be made for anyone who cannot attend on April 26.
