I was recently introduced to few new-to-me local brands by our friends at Battaglia’s. They carry a ton of local goodies. But on this one particular Saturday, as I was waiting on my Boar’s Head deli meat, they had just gotten in the first of their supply of local gourmet popcorn from B’Poppin Gourmet Popcorn and Sweet Treats in New Brighton.

This Popcorn Was Different

This popcorn was different than anything you have seen around here before. Battaglia’s had pizza, taco, and confetti flavors, and also kettle corn available as samples. So you know, The Mister and I had to give them all a try. Oh. My. Gosh. They were all delicious! I decided to go with birthday cake flavor, because who doesn’t like birthday cake. I grabbed the bag of popcorn and my deli meat and went on my merry way home.

When I started to munch on it, I realized an article was in order. This popcorn needed to be screamed from rooftops!  It was delicious and more people need to know that. Unfortunately I had made Teenager Beaverhausen aware of it’s amazingness and he ate the whole…entire…bag. (On the Costco list for next week – A safe to store MY food. Hmph.)

Face to Face With B’Poppin

I went to meet with Brenda and Bill, the owners of B’Poppin, on the very next Saturday morning. As soon as I got out of the car, I could smell the delicious popcorn scent wafting into the street. Mmmmm. There was some construction in front of the store, but there was still plenty of parking and sidewalk space, just as an FYI for when you head on over.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in (outside of the delightful popcorn smell) were the displays. Displays of tins, popcorn balls, and candy apple popcorn on sticks! Wedding favor displays, movie party displays, baby shower displays. If you need an idea for an upcoming party, you’ll be sure to find it here.

They even have a popcorn maker to rent for a party. How about that! You can pop your own for, say, a kiddos birthday.. or maybe the Pirates home opener? But, if you would rather have someone else make the popcorn, they can obviously do that too….and in a lot more flavors too.

They can do gift tins for any occasion and with any flavors you would like. 100% customizable for whatever gift-giving need you may have. They even can deliver it locally or can discuss shipping with you for those out-of-town occasions. Just pick your flavors and sizes and they will get you the price. Easy. Peasy.

Brenda’s Sweet Treats

In addition to the party displays and gift ideas, they also have the ‘Sweet Treats’ portion of their name. Brenda does all sorts of different treats. In her words, “anything she can put chocolate on” is fair game! She is my kinda lady, that’s for sure. Chocolate potato chips, pretzels, buckeyes, rice krispie treats. Nothing is safe from the chocolating she does. There is even popcorn with chocolate drizzled on it.

And about all of that popcorn! Behind the counter were tubs and tubs of different flavors. So many to pick from. There are candy coated with chocolate drizzle for those with a sweet tooth or if you are more of a savory fan, there are flavors like creamy dill or cheddar pretzel ale. What about those that like to test the manhood of their taste buds? Ahh, yes.. there is something for you too, with their Guadalajara hot sauce flavor.  Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t the Guadalajara pepper what caused Homer Simpson to find his coyote spirit animal? Kidding. That was the Guatemalan Insanity Pepper. It is close though!

They were doing some secret flavor creating when I was there, and I won’t ruin it…but it was good. I love Sriracha so this was right up my alley. Oh wait. Did I ruin it? (wink wink) Brenda said they are constantly thinking up new flavors and trying them out. Do you have a flavor you want to see them try to create? Let them know!

In addition to all of those things, they also will be having Hawaiian shaved ice when the weather gets a little warmer, and they have a cotton candy maker too, so expect some fluffy sugar clouds on sticks too!

Brenda and Bill are a joy to talk to, and you should make it a point to stop in and try some of their goodies! Be sure to tell them that Ana sent you. B’Poppin is located at 1033 3rd Avenue in New Brighton, and can be reached at 724-843-2873, or via email at bpoppin1033@gmail.com. Their popcorn is also carried at Main Street Deli and Foodland, both in New Brighton, as well as Battaglia’s on Dutch Ridge Road.
