I put my money where my mouth is on this neighborhood, because I don’t think there is anywhere else in the country where you can get a waterfront home, complete with walls and a roof, for a price in the low $100s.

The Perfect Buyer
At less than 1,000 square feet, there are some serious space constraints to this house at 525 Atlantic Ave, so I’m not going to suggest that it would be an optimal residence for a family of five (although it would be a crazy cheap way to get the kids into Central Valley School District). This house is going to be more suited to the independent, single professional, or the young couple just getting started on their life together.
The Money Shot
While there might be some size issues here, anyone who looks at this house cannot help having their breath taken away by the view. To drive that home even further, there are french doors that lead from the living room out onto a nice deck overlooking the Beaver River flowing right into the Ohio River.
You almost can’t help envisioning having your friends and family over here every Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day for a fantastic cookout complete with the scenery of both rivers. I can personally attest to how great it is to hang out on the back porch watching the boats float by all summer (it’s also pretty cool when the barges get stuck in the ice during the winter months).
The Price is Right
The other huge selling point for this great house is that the price is fantastic. Zillow estimates that a standard mortgage on this house would only cost you $428/month. Add in another $200 or so for taxes and insurance and you are buying a house for $628/month. It’s hard to beat that type of price point, and I know quite a few people with car payments higher than that!
The bottom line here is that if you if you can make the space work for you, this house is a great deal in an unbelievable location with a dynamite view. It’s definitely worth a look for the young professional who is looking for an investment as an alternative to renting. You might not be able to stay in this house forever, but it would be a great start to your early adult life!
