One of the things that I always looks for in a restaurant is consistency. I want the food to be exactly the same every time I order it, because having the best French fries in the world on one visit only to get a soggy mess on the next visit isn’t fun. Consistency is key.

I also know first-hand how incredibly difficult it is to master the art of putting out consistent food on a regular basis.

Let’s be honest here, unless we are talking about toppings, there is nothing really special or secretive about cooking a great French fry. But cooking a great French fry every single time is something very special.

That’s why Bert’s Wooden Indian is on the list.

There is a reason these places have been around for so long. Bert’s has had a line out the door for over 50 years” – Judy Pamer

First, I would like the thank Judy Pamer for adding the perfect quote to define Bert’s Wooden Indian to her submission for best French Fries in Beaver County.

For as long as I can remember, Bert’s has been a staple in my family’s restaurant rotation. We love it.

Aside from an occasional menu adjustment every now and then, Bert’s has been serving pretty much the same food for about twice as long as I’ve been alive. That’s staying power!

The French Fries

When it comes to the French fries, Bert’s actually has two options. They have the standard straight shoe-string fries and they have their fancy seasoned curly fries.

Growing up, I was always a curly fry guy. But lately I have been known to prefer the straight fries.

Whatever your preference, Bert’s has mastered the art of sending those fries out hot and crispy. Every. Single. Time.

What’s the Secret?

I had the chance to sit down with owner David Sebastian this past week to discuss what it is that makes his restaurant’s  French fries so beloved by the community. Sadly, his answer wasn’t very exciting.

According to David, they just do the best they can to cook the fries the exact same way every time. Seriously. That’s it. They don’t even salt them.

He explained to me that he has been doing this for a very long time and that the only real secret he has is to make sure that every single person in his kitchen is cooking everything the same way every time.

His goal is for every order of French fries to look, smell, and taste exactly the same. Mission accomplished as far as I’m concerned.

My Personal Opinion

I probably would have had Bert’s a little bit higher on my own list of the best French fries simply because I think those crispy fries are the secret that makes their Hot Roast Beef so delicious.

I have always been impressed by the elite level of consistency you will get from the Wooden Indian, and hearing David explain why his fries are so good only reinforced that.
