Around 15 years ago, I had a bagel in New Jersey.

Doesn’t seem like a big deal…but it sure was the best thing I have ever eaten. It was an everything bagel and it was topped with salami, muenster cheese, onion and mustard.

Granted I was 5 months pregnant at the time, but I have continually tried to recreate that dream lunch.

Beaver Bagel Co.

This past Saturday, that happened. I was skimming my Facebook feed when a friend’s check-in at Beaver Bagel Co. popped up. My jaw dropped and I was literally (and still am, can you tell??) that excited about the prospect of a freshly baked bagel. You just can’t find those around here very often!

I loaded up the toddler and shuffled the husband out of the house to zip over to the farmer’s market before they closed. “Zip” might be a stretch… it was more of a “ridiculously slow overly pregnant waddle,” but who’s taking notes on that, right?

Turns out, the owner of this mystical bagel company, Jessica, is also the pastry chef at Witch Flavor?, the Penn State Creamery ice cream shop on 3rd street in Beaver. worlds colliding

The last treat I had there was an amazing salted caramel whoopee pie, so yes, definitely already a fan of her work. I chatted her up for a bit and found out that she was just starting out with bagels and for now will only be setting up a stand at the Beaver Farmer’s Market (Saturday mornings, rain or shine, from 10am until 1pm).

She has other treats if bagels aren’t your thing – like muffins, cookies, even doggie treats – but bagels probably will be your thing after you try one. Just sayin.

Digging Deeper

She also mentioned a few specs on her goods. Everything she makes is made from scratch, with no preservatives and she only uses McCormack apiaries honey. It’s a Beaver County company, using a Beaver County company. Love that!!

Each bagel is formed by hand and kettle boiled. She also said that she was looking into a few other venues to sell her bagels, including home delivery. We have the milkman delivery and know the great benefits to it; This would be a great service if it came to fruition!

Battaglia’s Dutch Ridge Dairy

From the Farmer’s Market, we had to complete the dream bagel sandwich with delicious Salami.

While there are so many options for deli meat around the area, Battaglia’s on Dutch Ridge Road in Brighton Township carries Boar’s Head meats, so that’s where we headed. I switched up the Muenster for some Havarti, because you know the rule – You can’t have a party without Havarti!

This dream was totally coming together now.

Putting it All Together

Got home, assembled delicious bagel sandwich, ate delicious bagel sandwich, and remained happy the rest of the day. Sadly, I was too excited and forgot to snap a picture of it! Next time I will remember for sure, but in the meantime check out her Facebook page for some drool-worthy shots.

Later in the day to thank my good friends at Witch Flavor? for the information on Jessica and her dreamy bagels, we stopped in for some ice cream and good chatting. Just another spot you should definitely check out if you haven’t yet.

They change out their flavors often and always have some unique and delicious ones to try. This time, I tried the popcorn – It was salty, it was sweet, it was the perfect ending to such a dreamy food day. The hubs and teen both had a cookie ice cream sandwitch, two homemade cookies (Jessica strikes again!) sandwiching the ice cream flavor of your choice.

Do yourself a favor next Saturday and check out the Beaver Farmer’s Market for these goods and many other awesome local companies. But please, don’t buy them all before I get there!!
