old economy

Because the original residents of Old Economy Village in Ambridge were of German descent, it seems only natural that the community would have celebrated the German tradition of Oktoberfest every fall. Starting this year, the village will be hosting a weekend Autumnfest on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday September 21.

In celebration of the Autumn harvest, Old Economy will be filled with lively 19th century artisans performing tasks like meat smoking, coopering, blacksmithing, broom making, wine making, and beer brewing. You will have the opportunity to help them with common tasks like churning butter, pressing apples, making rope, and baking.

In addition to many of the 19th century activities that are fun for the whole family, including lots of games for children! There will also be live music from Burke’s Bavarian Brass, Daniels & McClains, and Koni Ostertag! You can sing and dance to celebrate Autumnfest, just as the Harmony Society likely would have many years ago.

The Autumnfest at Old Economy Village will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, and then from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 21. The cost of admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $6 for children.
